Nearly a Clean Sweep of United List Candidates at the LCMS Convention!

The balloting for positions on the Board for National Mission and the Board for International Mission have been completed. Of 20 positions being filled, the United List made recommendations for 18 of those positions - 16 were filled by the candidate suggested by the United List. The two deviations from the list were the election of Linda Stoterau as Layperson for the West region of the Board for National Mission, and August C. Schwark as Layperson for the West region of the Board for International Mission.

An interesting turn-around. In 2007, David Luecke, a leader of JF, told me that JF was "delighted" at their successes. This year, despite his campaign, the tables are turned. I think the major contributors to this "sweep" are the following (listed alphabetically):

Brothers of John the Steadfast
Issues, Etc.
Lutheran Concerns.

Two of those three did not exist in 2007, and one has been "REVITALIZED"! It promises to be an interestng three years.

Another major factor in the turn-around was David Luecke himself, whose frequent letters to the delegates were at times so biased and stretched the truth so far as to rub people the wrong way.

I didn't see those letters, but there's a lesson there for "our side": No matter what happens, accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative (and don't mess with mister inbetween).

It appears that of the United List recommendations for the CPH board, three were elected, but two were not. (This is a crucial board, as I well know, and the victory is significant, giving conservatives a majority again. Only one of the Jesus First incumbents was re-elected, and the United choice of Mark Bender for the commissioned position did not get elected.

A majority on the CPH board is indeed a wonderful thing. While bloggers blog and corporate entities spin their propoganda on the internet, the book has yet to be replaced, especially as it pertains to theology!
