Somehow, I just can't get it out of my head that Pastor Wilken's comments and the following quotes of Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod President Gerald Kieschnick are somehow related. Maybe you can figure it out. The first quote comes from Rev. Kieschnick's response to Mollie Ziegler Hemingway's Wall Street Journal article on the cancellation of Issues, Etc., and the second a memo sent to the District Presidents in response to the recent Issues, Etc. trademark skirmish:
More importantly, I wish to address the unfortunate comments in the column that The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod is deeply divided and that it is pushing “church marketing” over the historic confessions of the evangelical Lutheran Church. In truth, last summer the LCMS had its most positive and unified convention in years. Our church remains faithful to the Scriptures and Lutheran Confessions, an integral part of our identity as a church body.
As indicated during our Council of Presidents discussion of that topic earlier this week, contrary to allegations and rumors you and I have recently received, I have not filed, initiated, supported, or encouraged any lawsuit against Rev. Todd Wilken or Mr. Jeff Schwarz, nor have I ever had a desire to do so.
